Lineage Nose-to-Tail Collagen

Most collagen supplements contain only type I from hide. Nose-to-Tail draws collagen from more parts of the animal and therefore provides types I, II and III in the same dose. Sixteen grams of collagen per scoop, together with vitamin C from acerola cherry, which the body needs to build its own collagen.

About Nose-to-Tail Collagen and why the collagen type matters

Ordinary collagen powder is almost always derived from hide, which gives type I. That works for skin, hair and nails, but joints and cartilage need type II, which hide simply does not contain. By also using trachea, scapula and eggshell membrane, Nose-to-Tail brings types I, II and III into one and the same powder.

The trachea contributes type II, the collagen type that cartilage and joint surfaces are made of. The scapula gives types I and III from bone and connective tissue. Eggshell membrane is one of nature’s richest sources of hyaluronic acid and elastin, and also adds glycosaminoglycans and chondroitin.

The vitamin C is not there for show. The body cannot build its own collagen without vitamin C, because it is required in the enzyme steps where the amino acids proline and lysine are converted. A hundred milligrams from acerola cherry covers that need.

Sixteen grams per scoop is a higher dose than most competing products, which often sit around ten grams. The powder is tasteless and dissolves in both hot and cold drinks, which makes it easy to stir into your morning coffee.

What sets this apart from ordinary collagen?

Ordinary collagen powder comes from hide and gives type I. Nose-to-Tail also uses trachea, scapula and eggshell membrane, which gives types I, II and III. Type II is the collagen type that cartilage and joint surfaces are made of, and it is absent from hide-based collagen.

Which collagen types does the product contain?

Types I, II and III. Type I is found in skin, hair and nails, type II in cartilage and joints, and type III in connective tissue.

Why does it contain vitamin C?

The body cannot build its own collagen without vitamin C. A hundred milligrams from acerola cherry covers the need in the enzyme steps where the amino acids proline and lysine are converted.

What is eggshell membrane?

The thin membrane between the eggshell and the egg white. It is one of nature’s richest sources of hyaluronic acid and elastin, and also contains glycosaminoglycans and chondroitin.

Does the powder taste of anything?

No. It is tasteless and dissolves in both hot and cold drinks, which makes it easy to stir into coffee without affecting the taste.

When will I notice a difference?

Most studies on collagen show effects on skin and joints after six to twelve weeks of daily use. Hair and nails often take a little longer.

Does the product contain allergens?

Yes, it contains egg through the eggshell membrane. It is free from milk, soy and gluten, however.

About Lineage Provisions

Lineage Provisions is an American brand that builds its entire range on raw materials from grass-fed, regeneratively raised animals. The thinking behind the company is simple: make products from what the animal actually consists of, rather than breaking raw materials down and putting them back together.

The range runs from beef sticks and air-dried steak to protein powder, collagen, creatine, tallow, coffee and raw honey. What they all share is the same requirement of the raw material: animals grazing year-round, verified by a third party rather than by the supplier itself.

The products are developed by Dr. Paul Saladino and Dr. Anthony Gustin, and every batch is tested for contaminants with certificates of analysis published openly.
